Living History
Report and Project
Assignment Date: Friday, December 16, 2021 Due Date: Wednesday, January 30, 2021
During the month of January, your child will research a famous African American in preparation for Black History Month. They should complete this report and project with parent help but they will need to do the work, as they will be graded on the information presented orally to the class. Each presenter will have three to five minutes to present. Please practice your presentation the week it is due several times and up until the scheduled date to present. It is expected that our students learn the importance of dressing appropriately when taking command of a room. Students are encouraged to wear dressy casual attire. In that, no jeans, gym shoes or jogging suits! Students who come dressed otherwise will be sent to the office immediately to call home for their uniform, per the Main Office. Students also may choose to present in uniform, which will be perfectly acceptable. All students must complete this project. There will be a drastic reduction in grade for any late Projects. This assignment will go toward both English Language Arts and Social Studies Grades (which includes grades for research, writing and oral presentation). The top ten projects will be showcased during Black History Month.
Part I. - Report
Students will research and write a one page report (two pages if handwritten) about famous African American that is still living. They have been assigned the person to research. All reports must be written in paragraph form and include the following elements:
Students must use a tri-fold board for this project. Include six facts from your report and a variety of pictures on your board. Also, write these important facts on flash cards to prepare for presentation. You may bullet these facts or use complete sentences. List at least three resources used for your report and project in alphabetical order (at least 1 must be a book). Please follow the format below for putting together your poster board so that you receive all the points possible.
(Remember that the local library can provide a wealth of information as well as the internet) Books chosen are to be submitted for approval no later than January 13, 2017. I have attached a rubric to follow for the report and project so your student will have great success!
